"So I'm working out one day and I was watching this girl train this woman and
she says to her, 'I want you to contract your latisimus dorsi and pulldown with
your rhomboids.' The client was looking at her with this blank look on her
face. It was then I decided I would be a different trainer. Now I am
sure this trainer was good at what she did and probably very knowledgable.
But she wasn't connecting. I wanted more. I wanted to build a
rapport and to make a connection that would change our lives forever. I
didn't want to just give out a generic workout, use terms that would make me
sound intelligent or pompous, hand them weights and count. The first job
interview I had as a trainer, the manager asked me if someone asked you for an
exercies for your gastrconemus, what would you tell them? (That's your
calf, by the way.) Not once in nine years of training has anybody ever
asked me that!

"Each workout with me is well thought out and prepared, but I go by feel.
If I see that something is not working, we move on to something else that might
work better. I want to give you more than you would do yourself.
Push you enough so that you feel great, a little sore, but not too much that you
dread coming back. I will always add something new to see how it fits, see
what you are willing and able to do. Push you through the days I think you
need to be pushed and let up when I feel you need a little something else. |

"In 2000, I left my job of 10 years because I felt there was something more out
there for me. I found a landlord that believed in me and a bank that
believed in me and opened a 5000 sq. ft. gym in Brookfield, CT with no more
experience of running or managing anything. Without even much experience
as a trainer except for my friends and family, I threw myself into making a
difference in people's lives. It was the most wonderful, most fullfilling
time of my life. Then after five years, I felt there was more out there
for me again. I sold my gym and moved to San Diego to pursue my dream of
chaning lives forever." |
